Steeply Sloping Rear Garden
Garden Design,
East Sussex
At the top of this garden stands the house, with the land sloping away fairly steeply downwards both east to west and south to north. A beautiful view of the Bodiam valley stretches out before you.
A paved terrace spans the full width of the house with a central bench outside the conservatory, from which to enjoy the view. A pathway leads down from the terrace, descending with sleeper edged steps, filled initially with sandstone paving and then continuing with self-binding gravel. On the east side of the path is a lawn and on the west side a deep area of mixed planting.
The steps lead in a curve to a level sunken patio, cut into the hillside and bounded by sleeper walls. Surrounded by a mixed planting of shrubs and perennials, the patio provides a hidden recess to relax in the sun and enjoy the view.
Borders surround the edges of the garden and are planted with a mix of shrubs, trees and perennials to provide privacy from the neighbours and to frame the valley view. At the bottom of the garden the planting is kept low, so as not to impede the countryside views.
This garden has yet to be constructed.
